Recognition comes during meeting of Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation in Orlando

The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) awarded the Sarasota Police Department reaccreditation status on Thursday, June 25, during the CFA’s meeting in Orlando, the Police Department has reported.
The reaccreditation will remain valid with CFA for the next three years, a news release points out.
In March, “a team of CFA assessors conducted a comprehensive on-site assessment of the Sarasota Police Department,” the release notes. The assessors “examined the agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services,” the release says. “The agency was found in compliance with all applicable standards, with no areas of noncompliance,” the release points out.
The accreditation manager for the Sarasota Police Department is Marissa Moore, it adds.
“Accreditation is a voluntary process,” not a mandatory one for law enforcement agencies, the release notes. “To earn accredited status, the Sarasota Police Department must comply with numerous standards, many of which address life, health and safety issues, as well as law enforcement best practices,” the release explains.
“Earning this accreditation reflects the Sarasota Police Department’s ongoing dedication to professional excellence and accountability,” said Chief Rex Troche in the release. “We remain focused on meeting and exceeding the rigorous standards established by the CFA,” he added, noting, “This recognition highlights the hard work of our agency, by both sworn officers and professional staff. Maintaining these high benchmarks will continue to be a priority for our agency moving forward,” said Troche.
The CFA points out that “accreditation increases the Sarasota Police Department’s ability to prevent and control crime through more effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services to the community,” as noted in the release. Accreditation enhances the public’s understanding of the Sarasota Police Department and its role in the community, as well as the agency’s goals and objectives, the release continues. It also “assures employees that every aspect of the Sarasota Police Department’s personnel system is in accord with professional standards, and that the system is both fair and equitable,” the release adds.
“The Sarasota Police Department has held full accreditation status since 2017, the release points out.
