Approximately 48,000 Sarasota County voters will begin receiving new voter information cards in the mail this week, Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner announced on June 22.

“The mailing of the voter information cards follows recent congressional redistricting by the Florida Legislature,” a news release explains. “In Sarasota County, the redistricting split the county” between congressional Districts 16 and 17; previously, the entire county was in District 17, the release points out.

“The cards are official notification to affected voters” that they will be voting in congressional District 16 going forward, the release adds.

“I want to make sure that these voters know that they are in a new congressional district and to expect to see congressional candidates for District 16 on their ballot in August and November,” Turner said. In the release.

In addition to the new congressional district, the release says, “other voting districts and the voter’s precinct and polling location are listed on the card.”

The release also points out that Turner is urging all voters to periodically review their voter information and check their precinct and polling location.

“The reality is that things change,” he said in the release. “In a place like Sarasota County, population growth, annexation and redistricting can lead to changes in districts, voting precincts and polling locations,” he pointed out. “We always notify affected voters, but a good way to ensure you know who your representatives are and that you are voting in the correct polling location is to check your information in advance.”

Voters may visit SarasotaVotes.gov to use the My Voter Record and Find My Precinct tools to review their voter information and confirm their precinct and polling location, the release notes. Voters with questions may call 941-861-8619.
