On June 16, two members of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s Emergency Operations Bureau were recognized by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman has announced.

Emergency Operations Manager Michael Speigle was named 2026 Florida APCO Chapter Manager of the Year, a news release notes, while Communications Operator III Amanda Brockner was awarded the 2026 Florida APCO Chapter Trainer of the Year distinction.

Speigle, who was nominated by his peers, was “chosen for his contributions as a team player, his years of service in public safety communications positions, interactions with staff and the public, and his leadership abilities, among other criteria,” the release points out. He was described as “a strong leader, team player, and specifically adept at educating and building up those he supervises, the release adds.

“Brockner met the award criteria as someone who makes a difference on the team, demonstrates knowledge and flexibility in her assignments, and continually demonstrates professionalism and dedication in her role,” the release notes. “Her list of attributes highlighted how she continually exceeds expectations in the workplace and works to see each trainee as an individual,” guiding all of them to meet their specific goals, the release points out.

“These individuals exemplify the highest level of public service, and their recognition is well deserved,” said Sheriff Hoffman in the release. “I am incredibly proud of these members and all of our Emergency Operations Bureau personnel,” he added.

APCO International is “the oldest and largest organization for public-safety communications professionals,” the release explains. It “supports those managing 911 and emergency dispatch systems,” and it “offers online training and certifications, sets national standards, and advocates at the federal level,” the release notes.
