Nearly 500 Sarasota County residents unable to complete visits between June 8 and June 17 because of paperwork problems

“As Floridians continue renewing driver’s licenses, updating identification cards and preparing for summer travel,” the staff of the Sarasota County Tax Collector’s Office is reminding residents to review the types of required documentation they must have “before visiting a service center — and to bring printed, physical documents with them, as required by the state,” the staff announced this week.
“Documents cannot be printed at the service center,” a news release points out. All originals are returned to customers at the conclusion of their appointments, the release adds.
“Between June 8 and June 17, nearly 500 Sarasota County residents were unable to complete their visit due to missing paperwork, invalid insurance or other required documentation,” the release stresses. “The most common issue involved proof-of-address documentation for driver’s license and identification card services, accounting for more than one-third of all incomplete visits (182 residents) during that period,” the release notes.
“The Tax Collector staff regularly assist residents in navigating common misconceptions surrounding REAL ID and driver’s license transactions, including whether a spouse’s proof of address can be used, whether a license without the REAL ID star is still valid, and what actually qualifies as acceptable proof of residential address under state requirements,” the release continues. The office staff “is available to share practical guidance on how residents can verify requirements” before their appointments, avoid unnecessary return trips and ensure smooth office visits, the release says.
