March 25 and March 26 have been set aside for that purpose
On Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) will hold auditions for its 2017-2018 season, the theater group has announced.
Auditions will take place at the WBTT Binz Building (1012 N. Orange Ave. in Sarasota), which is adjacent to the troupe’s theater building, a news release says.
Actors are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues — one comedic and one dramatic — of 3 minutes or less, the release continues. Singers are asked to be ready with 16 bars of one song, up-tempo or ballad, and one monologue — comedic or dramatic — of 3 minutes or less, the release adds.
“Callbacks will be the same day; performers auditioning for musicals are asked to bring extra attire that is comfortable for learning choreography,” the release points out. “Singers should bring sheet music in the correct key, with the beginning and ending noted for the accompanist.”
All candidates must bring five copies of their professional headshot with resume either stapled to it or with the material printed two-sided; photocopies are acceptable, the release notes.
To secure an audition slot, contact Travis Ray, associate managing director, at 941-404-7801 or email tray@westcoastblacktheatre.org. The deadline to secure an audition slot is Friday, March 24, at 4 p.m., the release adds.
The 2017-2018 season includes In the Heights (Oct. 11 to Nov. 18); A Motown Christmas (Nov. 29 to Dec. 23); The Mountaintop (Jan. 10 to Feb. 18, 2018); Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill (Feb. 28 to April 8, 2018) and Soul Man (April 18 to May 26, 2018).
