To improve traffic safety near the Lift Station 87 site in the city of Sarasota’s Luke Wood Park, a temporary deceleration lane will be constructed adjacent to Mound Street (U.S. 41), beginning June 4, the lift station project team has announced. Construction will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for approximately three days, during which time partial lane closures will be necessary on Mound Street between Osprey Avenue and U.S. 301, a news release points out. “Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and follow all maintenance of traffic signs. Flaggers will also be in the area to help traffic move safely,” the release adds.

The Florida Department of Transportation approved construction of the temporary deceleration lane in its right of way “to allow construction vehicles to safely diverge from the flow of traffic on Mound Street and enhance the safety of all motorists,” the release explains. The temporary deceleration lane will be removed and the area restored before completion of the new lift station building has been finished, the release adds.
