Mobile app available for download at no cost in the iPhone and Google Play (Android) app stores
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new mobile application as another way to connect with Sarasota County residents and visitors, Sheriff Tom Knight has announced.
The mobile app was developed by TheSheriffApp.com, a division of OCV LLC, a news release explains. Initial implementation of the application took place early this year, the release says. After staff tested it and researched best practices and usability, the app went live on Oct. 26, the release added; it is available for download.
“For most users, quick access and usability are key components to a successful application and the sheriff’s office app offers both,” the release continues. In just a few clicks, users can do the following, the release points out:
- Submit a crime tip.
- View calls for service in real time.
- See who is in jail, along with a person’s charge, bond amount and release date.
- View the most wanted criminals in Sarasota County.
- Connect to the agency’s social media platforms.
- Read the latest news and find out about upcoming events.
- Find a complete list of sex offenders who live nearby.
- Research unsolved crimes.
- Access career opportunities.
- Direct dial select departments within the agency.
A promotional video about the app is available on YouTube, the release adds.
“We are very excited to officially release this new application to the citizens we serve,” said Community Affairs Director Kaitlyn Perez in the release. “Technology has transformed the way law enforcement functions and now more than ever, citizens are wanting information in real-time. By giving users quick access to information from an official source, we are taking our efforts in information-sharing and communications to the next level,” she pointed out in the release.
TheSheriffApp.com specializes in mobile app development for sheriffs’ offices and public safety agencies across the country, the release explains. OCV designs and creates custom apps for state, county and local government agencies, the release notes; the company has developed more than 500 apps altogether.
“Nearly 80 percent of people in the United States own and use smartphones as their primary means of communication,” OCV Vice President Kevin Cummings said in the release. “Mobile apps offer agencies a better way to alert, inform and prepare the public. Apps allow public safety agencies the ability to reach and serve their citizens where they are: their smartphones.”
