The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will host the 33rd Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 15, the office has announced.

The event is held each year during National Police Week, which will be observed May 13-19, a news release explains. The memorial service will be conducted at 9 a.m. outside the Sheriff’s Office headquarters, located at 6010 Cattleridge Blvd. in Sarasota, the release says.

Front desk services will be limited from 8 until 11 a.m., the release notes. During that time, members of the public are asked to consider calling 861-5800, or they may wait to visit the Sheriff’s Office headquarters after the ceremony has concluded, the release notes.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, participating agencies will be the Sarasota, Venice, North Port, and Longboat Key police departments; the Florida Highway Patrol; the Sarasota County Commission; the State Attorney’s Office; the Sarasota County Fire Department; the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Public Safety office; the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus Police; the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport Authority; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“The service recognizes men and women who serve and protect this community,” the release explains. It also will honor Florida law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2017, the release says.
