Session to be conducted at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Sarasota
At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, a public workshop will be conducted on a proposed change to Sarasota County land development regulations regarding half dwelling units, county staff has announced.
As part of the County Commission’s efforts to facilitate the construction of affordable housing projects, the board has discussed an amendment that would allow homes no larger than 750 square feet to be counted as half dwelling units for the purpose of density calculations in multi-family developments, a news release explains.
The proposed amendment to the county’s Unified Development Code would not allow that density consideration in any project on a barrier island or outside the county’s Urban Service Boundary, the news release points out.
The Feb. 27 workshop will be held in the Training Room of the County Administration Center in downtown Sarasota, which is located at 1660 Ringling Blvd.
On the morning of March 13, shortly after 9 a.m., the County Commission will hold a public hearing on the half dwelling unit density change. That hearing will be conducted in the Commission Chambers at the County Administration Center.
