Goal is to enhance pedestrians’ experience in shopping district, Sarasota mayor says
The City of Sarasota once again is partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Town of Longboat Key “to enhance the pedestrian experience on St. Armands Circle by providing crossing guards” to help those on foot safely maneuver around the popular destination during peak tourist season, Mayor Hagen Brody announced in his March 12 newsletter.
The pedestrian crossing guards will be on site through April 4 during the following hours, he added:
- Thursday and Friday: 4 to 7 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: noon to 6 p.m.
“The program implementation costs are being split evenly,” Brody noted, with each partner responsible for approximately $3,300.
“We appreciate the cooperative spirit with FDOT and Longboat Key as we work together to create a welcoming environment for shoppers, diners and those just enjoying a stroll on the Circle,” Brody wrote.
