Fatal shooting in Osprey under investigation

Sheriff’s Office deputies called to home Saturday morning in area of Highland Road and Westview Drive

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in an Osprey neighborhood that was reported shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, the agency has announced.

The incident occurred in the area of Highland Road and Westview Drive, an advisory explained. “The scene is secure, and there is no threat to the community at this time,” the advisory pointed out.

The section of Osprey that the agency identified is east of Oscar Scherer State Park and U.S. 41/Tamiami Trail, a map shows.

The Towns-End Shores subdivision is in that vicinity, the Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office notes, with single-family, attached homes east of the Westview Drive intersection and single-family, detached homes along Westview Drive.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Section is leading the investigation, the advisory added.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900, leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS (8477), or go online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com, the advisory says.
