Sarasota County staff has announced three more public meetings on the initiative to create a Unified Development Code (UDC) that will update and bring together the county’s land development and zoning regulations, which control the development of all properties in the unincorporated area of Sarasota County.

The goal of the UDC is to “make it simpler to find regulatory information for any piece of property, while clarifying the regulations,” a news release notes.

Sarasota County staff has been working with a consulting firm since March to create the UDC. The consultant and county staff will hold a series of public workshops through November “to share draft language for the new code” and collect comments from the public, a news release says. Each workshop will be held at 6 p.m. in the Main Hall at Nokomis Community Park, which is located at 234 Nipping Trail in Nokomis:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 18.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 7.

A UDC project webpage has been created on the county website. The proposed document ultimately will be subject to the full public hearing process before the county’s Planning Commission and the County Commission before it is adopted.
