Dinverno named new principal of Venice Middle

He has served as Tuttle Elementary principal since 2014

Tomas Dinverno has been named principal at Venice Middle School, effective July 1, pending Sarasota County School Board approval, the school district has announced.

Dinverno, who serves as principal of Tuttle Elementary,has worked for the Sarasota County School District since 2003, a news release notes.

The Venice Middle position opened up earlier this spring when Principal Karin Schmidt retired, the release adds.

“Tomas Dinverno is a well-seasoned principal whose track record of working at both elementary and high schools makes him an ideal choice for this vital role,” noted Superintendent Todd Bowden in the release.

“As we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week, my thanks goes out to all the hardworking teachers in Sarasota County, and especially to the Tuttle staff, whom I have worked with these last four years,” said Dinverno in the release. “I look forward to all the great ways to continue to support student learning as part of the Charger team!” he added in the release.

“Tomas Dinverno is a tremendous asset to the school administration team,” Stephen Cantees, executive director of secondary schools in the district, said in the release.

Dinverno’s first position in the district was at North Port High School, where he served as a Spanish teacher, data coach, department chair and assistant principal, the release explains. In 2014, he became principal of Tuttle Elementary, the release says.

He received his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Florida and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, the release notes. Dinverno lives in Venice with his wife, son and myriad pets, the release says.
