For the first time, merchants on the southern part of Siesta Key will be joining those in Siesta Village to celebrate Safe Treats, the island’s annual Halloween event, the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce has announced.

Safe Treats is so named because it “is a safe & fun way to celebrate!” a flyer points out. The event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Participating merchants will be using balloons to mark their businesses, so youngsters may stop in for Halloween candy. Costume attire, as always, will be most welcome.

This is the first year Safe Treats will be held since the Siesta Key Village Association merged with the Siesta Chamber. After that occurred at the start of 2017, Chamber leaders have been working to spread to the “South Village” some of the activities that once took place only in Siesta Village. In the spring, for example, the annual Children’s Easter Party and Egg Hunt took place at Turtle Beach Park.

The free Siesta Key Breeze open-air trolley will be operating during Safe Treats, so visitors to the island are welcome to ride the Breeze between Siesta Village and the southern end of the Key. Ample parking is available at Turtle Beach Park, which is one of the primary trolley stops.
