No change to garbage collection schedule
City of Sarasota administrative offices that have remained operational throughout the local public health emergency will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day, the city has announced.
“Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be collected as usual,” a news release says.
Payne Park Tennis Center will be closed on May 25, the release adds, but it will reopen on Tuesday, May 26, at 8 a.m.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Memorial Day parade has been canceled, the release points out. The Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee announced the decision last month in consultation with the City of Sarasota.
“In a unique opportunity for the Sarasota community, the cart path at Bobby Jones Golf Club, the City’s historic municipal golf course, will be open to the public for limited walking, running, bicycling and birding” from Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25, the release adds. “Public access will be free, limited to the cart path, and available daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” the release says. “Proper social distancing will be strongly urged.”
While city parks are open, playgrounds, public swimming pools and the Children’s Fountain in Bayfront Park remain closed, the release notes. More information about COVID-19 closures is available at SarasotaFL.Gov/COVID-19.
