An online survey has been made available to gather public feedback on possible sites for the relocation of the Unconditional Surrender statue on the City of Sarasota bayfront, the city announced on Sept. 18.

“The brief survey provides visuals of the nine potential sites for the City-owned statue, which must be moved from its current spot along the Bayfront to accommodate the Florida Department of Transportation’s construction of a new roundabout at U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue in 2021,” a news release explains.

“From the outset of our transparent decision making process, the relocation of Unconditional Surrender has been the topic of much debate and public input, including discussions by the City Commission, Public Art Committee and the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection Advisory Board,” City Manager Tom Barwin wrote in his Sept. 18 newsletter.

To take the survey, visit surveymonkey.com/r/Unconditional_Surrender. The survey will be open until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.

During a future meeting, the release adds, the City Commission will make the final decision on the relocation of Unconditional Surrender. “A date has not yet been scheduled,” the release points out. “The survey results will be included in the materials provided to the City Commission to be considered as part of its deliberations at that meeting,” the release says.
