To safeguard community health during the current surge in COVID-19 cases, the City of Sarasota’s Development Services Department resumed appointment-only, in-person service as of 8 a.m. on Aug. 9, the city announced.

To schedule an appointment for permitting, email subnocroof@sarasotafl.gov or call 941-263-6494, a news release says. “For all other appointments, call the appropriate division,” it adds:

  • Code Compliance — 941-263-6417.
  • Local Business Sales Tax — 941-263-6469.
  • Engineering — 941-263-6532.
  • Zoning — 941-263-6432.

The Building Division’s drop box for plans and other transmittals remains available to the public in the City Hall Annex lobby, which is located at 1565 First St., the release points out. That box is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Staff members “are monitoring the local positivity rate daily to determine when to fully reopen Development Services to the public,” the release notes.

The rest of City Hall and other city buildings are open to the public, the release points out. “Face coverings are encouraged indoors,” it says.

Appointment-only service initially was instituted for the Development Services Department in March 2020 as a way “to safely continue providing building and construction services during the public health emergency,” the release explains.
