On May 8, three Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputy recruits graduated with Basic Law Enforcement Class 180 of the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy, the Sheriff’s Office has announced.

“This marks a significant milestone for Deputy Recruits Steven Petty, Colin Doyle, and Christopher Trudnak,” a news release says, as they “completed a rigorous training program designed to equip them with essential skills for their careers in law enforcement.”

The release adds, “The graduates have demonstrated exceptional commitment by achieving passing scores on all written end-of-course examinations and by proving their proficiency in critical areas such as DUI Traffic Stops and high liability courses,” the release continues. The latter courses include Vehicle Operations, First Aid, Firearms, and Defensive Tactics, the release notes.

The deputy recruits also participated in the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Fitness Program, the release says.

“The decision to send our recruits to the well-respected Southwest Florida Public Service Academy in Fort Myers underscores our agency’s commitment to providing top-tier training,” the release points out of the Sheriff’s Office’s leaders. “This preparation is crucial for our cadets as they progress toward taking the state exam to become certified law enforcement officers.”
