Community residents encouraged to read selections and share their favorites on social media, county staff says

The Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Department has announced the top five finalists for its 2027 One Book, One Community program.
They are as follows, a news release says:
- The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick— a “novel about friendship, resilience and the power of women supporting one another.”
- The Correspondent by Virginia Evans— a “story exploring connection, communication and relationships.”
- Heartwood by Amity Gaige— a “layered novel about human relationships and everyday resilience.”
- Kate and Frida by Kim Fay— a “story of friendship, creativity and self-discovery.”
- Unread by Oliver James— a “memoir exploring memory, identity and the stories we leave behind.”
“Each year, a committee reviews dozens of titles before selecting one book,” the news release explains. The author whose work is chosen “is invited to Sarasota County in March for community discussions and book signings at locations in north and south county,” the release notes.
“Community members are encouraged to read the finalists, share their favorites on social media using #OneBook2027, and participate in related library programs and book clubs,” the release adds.
“It’s always an exciting time when the One Book Committee announces its top five finalists because many in our community treat it as a must-read list,” said Renée Di Pilato, director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, in the release. “It’s a wonderful way to spark conversation and bring people together through reading.”
Supported by the Library Foundation for Sarasota County, the One Book program “has connected readers through shared literary experiences for more than 20 years and has welcomed numerous acclaimed authors to Sarasota County,” the release points out.
