Atlanta Braves and West Villages to host block party in downtown Venice on Feb. 9

Baseball-themed activities for children, bands and appearance of past members of Braves to be part of festivities

Venice MainStreet, the Atlanta Braves and the West Villages are teaming up to host the Braves on Miami (Avenue) Block Party in Historic Downtown Venice on Feb. 9, Venice MainStreet has announced.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., the Venice tourism agency says in a news release. “West Miami Avenue will close for a block party Atlanta Braves style,” the release notes.

While the Braves will be preparing for Spring Training, past members of the team “will be in attendance for a meet and greet,” the release continues, adding, “Bring the family for a fun evening under the lights.”

Venice Mayor John Holic will “throw the first pitch,” with a proclamation regarding the Atlanta Braves Spring Training organization, the release notes. The event’s masters of ceremony will be Maverick and Lulu of 92.1 CTQ, the release says.

Two bands will play at the corner of West Miami Avenue and Nokomis Avenue. The Johnny Holiday Band will be on stage from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the release continues, while Sugar and Spice Revue will perform from 8 to 10 p.m.

Additionally, baseball-themed activities have been planned for children, the release notes.

Adults will be able to visit the Braves bar for beverages for purchase, the release says. Dining options and non-alcoholic beverages will be offered by a Braves food truck.

Admission will be free, the release adds; parking will be available “within comfortable walking distance.”

Some participants will receive a free event T-shirt donated by Gulf Breeze Apparel Co., the release notes.
