Sarasota Bradenton International Airport continues to experience ‘substantial growth’ in passenger counts

May total was 79% higher than figure for May 2019, pre-pandemic

For the month of May, passenger traffic at the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) totaled 288,551, the Airport Authority has reported.

Compared to the data for May 2020, “passenger traffic was 622% higher than the COVID-19 impacted level of 39,988 passengers,” a news release points out. In May 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the passenger count was 161,435, the release adds. Thus, it notes, passenger traffic was 79% higher this May than in May 2019.

“We continue to see record-breaking growth at the airport with our airlines adding new destinations and increased service every month,” Rick Piccolo, president, CEO of the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, said in the release.

“With the recent announcement from Southwest Airlines that they will be adding 3 new nonstop destinations, passengers can now choose from 10 airlines providing service to 48 nonstop destinations,” Piccolo added in the release.
