County staff inviting the public to enjoy facilities and natural lands, as well
“July is Parks & Recreation Month!” Sarasota County’s Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department (PRNR) staff is reminding the public.
“This year’s National Recreation and Parks Association theme celebrates the vital role park and recreation professionals play in bringing people together, providing essential services and fostering the growth of communities,” a county news release points out.
Members of the public are invited to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month with PRNR staff at one of many events happening during July, the release adds:
- July 6, 9 a.m., Demonstration Garden tour at Shamrock Park, located at 3900 Shamrock Drive in Venice.
- July 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., F.I.S.H. dip netting program at Lemon Bay Park,which is located at 570 Bay Park Blvd. in Englewood; registration required.
- July 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., T-REC Forever Friends Day at Bee Ridge Park, which stands at 4430 S. Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota.
- July 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Christmas in July Arts & Crafts Show at Venice Community Center, located at 326 Nokomis Ave. S. in Venice.
“From neighborhood parks and large preserves to beaches and world-class athletic facilities, Sarasota County is dedicated to providing safe, accessible and diverse recreational opportunities and amenities for all ages,” the release points out.
“We hope that you will take the time this summer and throughout the month of July to enjoy all that Sarasota County Parks have to offer,” said Nicole Rissler, director of Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources, in the release.
During the 2023 Parks & Recreation Month, people are encouraged to explore the more than 55,000 acres of public park land, 444 miles of multiuse recreational trails, 35 miles of beaches, 110 athletic fields, 45 playgrounds and 150 parks that the county makes available, the release adds.
The release does note, “When visiting Sarasota County parks, beaches or natural areas remember to pack-in-pack-out and take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.”
