First event set for Jan. 18 at Station 23 in Nokomis

The Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) will continue its monthly open house events this year, inviting members of the community “to connect with their local firefighters and learn about fire safety,” a county news release says.
“These free, family-friendly open houses are held one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” the release points out. “They offer visitors the chance to meet their firefighters, explore fire apparatus,” and to learn about fire safety and prevention, and hands-only CPR, as well as how to use an [automated external defibrillator] AED, the release says.
Further, it notes, car seat safety inspections and bike helmet fittings will be available at each open house.
The 2025 open house schedule is as follows:
- Jan. 18 at Station 23, 1930 N. Tamiami Trail in Nokomis.
- Feb. 15 at Station 8, 840 Apex Road in Sarasota.

The members of the Sarasota County Fire Department are “proud to welcome the community into the fire stations, continuing the tradition of open houses,” the release continues. “These open houses are a wonderful opportunity for residents to engage directly with neighborhood firefighters.”
“Thank you to everyone who attended our open houses last year,” Fire Chief David Rathbun said in the release. “We are excited to continue bringing these events to even more fire stations across our community,” he added. “These opportunities let us not only engage with our neighbors, but share vital information on fire safety, skills like hands-only CPR and offer a chance to donate life-saving blood to make our community safer.”
