On Nov. 19, Sarasota County staff announced two measures to help persons who have been suffering the effects of the recent hurricanes.

First, staff reported that a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Survivor Assistance registration event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 25, Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 at the Venice Community Center, in Room E.

The center stands at 326 S. Nokomis Ave. in Venice.

This event will assist residents with FEMA registration for both Hurricanes Helene and Milton, a news release points out.

D-SNAP location

Secretary Shevaun Harris of the Florida Department of Children and Families has announced a Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) location for residents of Sarasota and Charlotte counties.

D-SNAP provides food assistance for Florida residents affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton “who are not receiving food assistance through the regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP),” the release points out.

Individuals who reside in Sarasota and Charlotte counties “who pre-registered online but did not have a chance to complete their D-SNAP phone interview can visit the D-SNAP location … for an in-person interview,” the release explains. “In-person interviews are not required if a phone interview was completed,” it points out.

“The Department will reopen pre-registration for individuals who reside in these counties and did not previously pre-register online,” the release adds.

However, the release notes, “We encourage individuals to pre-register online before coming on-site to complete their interview. Online pre-registration is open, the release adds; it will close on Nov. 23. Individuals may pre-register at www.myflfamilies.com/DSNAP.

For Charlotte and Sarasota counties, the location of the D-SNAP site is the Charlotte Sports Park, which stands at 2300 El Jobean Road in Port Charlotte (33948). The hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
