Jarvis named new principal at Ashton Elementary

Kristi Jarvis has been named the new principal at Ashton Elementary School in Sarasota, the Sarasota County School District has announced.

Superintendent Todd Bowden made the appointment, effective immediately but pending School Board approval, a news release says. Jarvis has served as Ashton’s acting principal since June 2017, the release adds.

“Kristi Jarvis has done a wonderful job as acting principal at Ashton Elementary this school year,” said Bowden in the release. “She has been a tremendous asset to the school district for more than 13 years, and her leadership and ability to connect to the Ashton community has served all of us well,” he added in the release.

“I have truly enjoyed working collectively with the staff, students, and families of Ashton,” said Jarvis in the release. “I am inspired each day as I walk through classrooms and interact with our amazing staff and students.” She added in the release, “Our mission to serve ‘Every Child, Every Day’ resonates throughout the school. I look forward to our journey as we inspire, dream, grow and become more together!”

Prior to becoming acting principal of Ashton Elementary, the release continues, Jarvis was assistant principal at Phillippi Shores Elementary from 2015 to 2017. She began her career in Sarasota at Brentwood Elementary, where she taught third and fourth grade for seven years, the release notes. She also served as a literacy/data coach, a reading and math resource teacher and a testing coordinator at Brentwood, the release points out.

Jarvis earned her master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Jones International University, the release says. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and specific learning disabilities from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio, the release adds.
