The annual Kids’ Summer Beach Runs will begin again on Siesta and Brohard public beaches this June, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department staff has announced.

The 1-mile fun runs are an opportunity for children and families to participate in healthful activities together over the summer, a news release points out.

The free Kids’ Summer Beach Runs are offered weekly:

  • Tuesdays, June 4 through July 30, at Siesta Beach, located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key.
  • Wednesdays, June 5 through July 31, at Brohard Beach, located at 1600 Harbor Drive in Venice.

No runs are scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, at Siesta Beach or Wednesday, July 3, at Brohard Beach, the release notes.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. near the playground at Siesta Beach and near the Venice Fishing Pier at Brohard Beach, the release explains. Races start 6:30 p.m. at both locations.

Children who complete four runs receive a free T-shirt, the release notes. The runs may be completed at either location.

Additionally, every runner receives a finisher ribbon after each race, the release points out.

Kids’ Summer Beach Runs are presented by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources, Sarasota Crew, New Balance of Sarasota and the Kiwanis Club, the release says. Additional sponsors are Sharky’s on the Pier, Manasota Track Club and Mommy Magazine.
