Detour signs to be posted in the area
A small section of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Sarasota will close as of Monday, June 24, for the replacement of the railroad crossing, Sarasota County staff has announced.
The project is expected to continue through Friday, July 12, a news release notes.
“The closure extends just west of Leonard Reid Avenue,” the release says. The road east of the railroad crossing “will remain open to vehicular traffic, from Tuttle Avenue to Leonard Reid Avenue,” it adds.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way also will be open to vehicular traffic on the west side of the railroad crossing, extending 700 feet east from North Washington Boulevard, the release explains.
“Detour signs will be placed in the area to guide vehicular traffic around the active construction site,” it adds.
The track replacement is part of a project the Sarasota County Commission approved in April. The work, at an approximate cost of $309,090, is part of an ongoing, countywide railroad crossing replacement program, the release points out.
