The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will host a Senior Citizen Crime Prevention Seminar on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Twin Lakes Park in Sarasota, the department has announced.

“As part of the agency’s continued commitment to public education,” its Crime Prevention Unit will conduct a two-hour program, from 1 to 3 p.m., ”to help senior citizens protect themselves from common types of fraud,” a news release says. With representatives from the IRS, Regions Bank and the State Attorney’s Office, topics of discussion will include how to protect bank accounts, identify different types of fraud and avoid tax return scams, the release adds.

Twin Lakes Park is located at 6700 Clark Road. The seminar is free, the release notes, but it is limited to 80 registrants. Attendees must RSVP by contacting Deputy Cathy Duff by email at Cathy.Duff@Sarasotasheriff.org or by phone at. 861-4084.

Light refreshments will be provided, the release says.
